TerraLex 2010 Asia Pacific Regional Meeting in Melbourne, Australia

Our Senior Associate, Noreeta Mohd Nor, recently attended the TerraLex 2010 Asia Pacific Regional Meeting in Melbourne, Australia to share ideas on business development, marketing aspects and the current challenging outlook of the global market and its impact on legal practice. The participants also exchanged overviews of member firms' experiences in their domestic and cross-border activities in the current economic crisis, particularly on ways to increase brand awareness to our clientele, some of whom have yet to benefit from the true scope of advantages offered by TerraLex.

2010 ASEAN IPA Annual Conference, Luang Prabang, Laos

Azmi & Associates recently participated, through our representative, Khairul Fazli Abdul Kadir, Head of Multimedia, Technology and Intellectual Property Practice Group, in the Association of South East Asian Nations' ("ASEAN") 2010 ASEAN Intellectual Property Association ("IPA") Annual Conference. The conference which discussed the enforcement of IP laws in the Indo-China region of ASEAN, provided a unique platform for collaboration, discussion and the exchange of ideas between the participants, and was attended by more than a hundred participants from more than ten Asian countries.

Azmi & Associates Establishes its Chinadesk Division

Spreading its wings regionally, Malaysia-based Azmi & Associates has launched its Chinadesk on 11 December 2009 with the concurrent uploading of its new Chinese-language website at chinadesk.azmilaw.com. The Chinadesk will focus on providing cross-border legal services to Chinese-speaking markets, its legal team comprising legal advisors familiar with Chinese social, political and business culture, and equally commercial-savvy.

MOU Collaboration with Faculty of Law, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia

As part of the initiative to instill knowledge in law students, more particularly in areas of corporate and commercial law, Azmi & Associates and UKM signed a Memorandum of Understanding to develop a framework of cooperation for mutual benefit of the parties. This cooperation will serve as a bridge to, amongst others, utilise the Firm as a training ground for law students to undergo internship, attachment and pupillage, and in many other ways, to create huge opportunities and benefit the parties towards the development and enhancement of legal education and legal profession as a whole.

A Visit from University of Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta Hadiningrat (UMY), Indonesia

The delegation from the Fakultas Hukum (Law Faculty), University of Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta Hadiningrat (UMY) visited our main office in Kuala Lumpur. The delegation, numbering ten people, was headed by the Dean of the Fakultas Hukum, UMY, Mr. Endrio Susilo and accompanied by Dr. Haniff Ahamat, Deputy Dean (Student Affairs) of the Ahmad Ibrahim Kulliyyah (Faculty) of Laws, International Islamic University Malaysia. The delegates were briefed by our lawyers on practice as a cross-border lawyer, and on corporate law, Islamic banking and intellectual property, in the Malaysian context.

Establishment of Azmi & Associates' International Law Division
